Arachnia (2003) pits giant spiders against a ragtag band of human survivors of a meteorite-induced plane crash in a spooky forest where nobody ever listened to the local old codger and his tales of eight-legged mayhem . . . until now! Fans of '50s sci-fi flicks like Them! (1954) and The Deadly Mantis (1957) (as well as nature-run-amok epics such as Frogs and The Food of the Gods ) will have a great time watching Arachnia, as it's both a loving tribute to low-budget thrills of yore and straightforward schlockfest in its own right. And in an age of cold, uninteresting, computer-generated effects, the awesome stop-motion animated spiders on the rampage here are almost as much fun to watch as scantily clad heroine Alexxus Young. Hey, I said almost.
