An Affair (1998)

Released in South Korea as Jung sa, Je-yong Lee’s entrancing romantic drama An Affair (1998) chronicles the passionate attraction that develops between a depressed housewife and a younger man. Trapped in a loveless marriage to her architect husband in Seoul, So-Hyun (Mi-suk Lee) is desperate to escape the rigid confines of her humdrum existence. When her best friend––a Korean emigrant living in America––asks So-Hyun to help her tall, dashing fiancé (Jung-Jae Lee) find an apartment, their encounter leads to more serious matters than house hunting. Mi-suk steams up the screen as the slighted wife who’s grown desperate for some passionate petting. Watching Jung-Jae have his way with the lithe Asian sexpot makes you wonder how her career-obsessed husband could possibly be so inattentive.
