The title of Amore amaro (1974) translates to Bitter Love--and that’s some baffling ageism at work, since Lisa Gastoni ain’t nothing but sweet in this tale of a May-December romance. Maurizio Fiori is the younger lover who gets his noodle al dente by the gorgeous widow in post-WWII Italy. The turbulent political landscape and societal pressure cause plenty of trouble for the young lover and his not-so-young love. Fortunately, this movie rips off the layers of hypocrisy and oppression--along with the covers hiding Lisa’s lovely full-frontal form!
