Amarcord (1973) is a semi-autobiographical tale that may give you a semi! In it, famed filmmaker Federico Fellini recants stories from his childhood growing up in a small coastal village in Italy. Like all of the auteur’s best movies — La Strada (1954), La Dolce Vita (1960), 8-1/2 (1963), and Juliet of the Spirits (1965) — this dramedy has a magical quality that makes the ordinary and mundane lives of townsfolk come to life with a whimsical quality that most other realistic directors could never achieve. Perhaps that’s why Amarcord took home top prizes from the Italian Golden Globe Awards, David di Donatello Awards, and the New York Film Critics Circle Awards. The movie also won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, and the Academy nominated Fellini for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Set at the height of Italy’s fascist period during the 1930s, the story centers around Titta (Bruno Zanin), a teenager growing up with his strict father (Armando Brancia) and loving mother (Pupella Maggio). The movie also includes Donatella Gambini, Josiane Tanzilli, and Magali Noël in black lingerie! If that’s not arousing enough, the tobacconist (Maria Anotnietta Beluzzi) pops her gigantic gazongas out of her sweater and tries to smother Titta with her Tittas. It’s the kid’s first encounter with a pair of breasts, and he couldn’t ask for a more ample introduction since these nude boobs are huge! Needless to say, Amarcord (which means “I remember”) is one coming of age film that could have audiencs cumming!
