Almost Paradise (2024)

Forty-year-old mama’s boy Julio Cesar (Edoardo Pesce) lives with his overbearing Colombian immigrant mother (Margarita Rosa De Francisco) in the suburbs of Rome. Joined at the hip, the two make a living by cutting drugs from her home country for the local dealer, which arrive via mules, aka people who smuggle cocaine overseas by swallowing it in capsules. One such mule is the vivacious Inés (María del Rosario Barreto), whose arrival diverts Julio’s attention from mommy dearest and exposes the frustrations underneath Julio and his mother’s codependent relationship. Speaking of exposing, the lone nudity comes from first-timer Matea Milinkovic as a sex worker with whom Julio has a late-night tryst. Matea’s left mam comes out of her dress and gets squeezed by Eduardo as she sits on his lap reverse cowgirl style until he finishes, so there’s almost a pair-a boobs in Almost Paradise!
