Water Lilies (2007)

Lesbianism is all the rage amongst twenty-first-century teen girls and, naturally, France is no exception. Water Lilies (2007) focuses on the blossoming sexuality of high-school friends played by Adele Haenel, Pauline Acquart, and Louise Blachère. Come summer, they hang out at a municipal pool where crushes develop—some same-gender-focused—and swimsuits come off in the heat of first-time passion. The literal translation of Water Lilies’s French title is “Birth of Octupuses.” The buoyant nubiles splashing about on screen will certainly get male viewers squirting ink like a squid.
