Verzweiflung (2000)

Roughly translated as “Despair”, Verzweiflung (2000) co-stars Nina Petri as Ulrike, a guilt-ridden woman that lives in self-imposed isolation as a form of punishment for killing her child. When Ulrike meets Sigs (Sylvester Groth) she slowly begins to forget her past transgressions, but it seems as though the burden of her past is stronger than love. As the two grow closer, Ulrike gets antsy and leaves out of fear of Sigs learning about her murderous sin. Though this flick is heavy and emotional, Nina Petri lightens the mood with various views of her three B’s. Danke schön, Nina!
