The Other Side (2024)

Based on the autobiographical book written by Colombia poet Carlos Framb, this dramatic tale opens with Julián Román as Framb wakes up in a hospital after being unconscious for several days. He is handcuffed to the bed and surrounded by police who are accusing him of murdering his 82-year-old mother Luzmila. The story continues with Framb awaiting trial in an Antioquia prison while flashing back to the events leading up to this point. We see his long-suffering mother battling illness, her defying her Catholic beliefs to ask him to mercifully end her pain, and his decision to die with her, and ultimately not succeeding, leading to what could potentially be a 30-year sentence. At the same time, we’re given glimpses into the life of the prosecutor (Juana Acosta), which include her getting banged up against a desk and crying naked in the shower. It’s not the sexiest side of Juana but the curvy Colombia can still get it.
