China is a hugely populated country, and it is a matter of mathematical inevitability that at least one of its citizens be a master of the supernatural horror thriller film. Directed by Kai Ming Lai, The Imp (1996) is a scary and disturbing flight of fearsome fancy. Diana Pang, she of the mystical breasts, is visited by telepathic premonitions of her twin sister being in grave danger. Setting out to locate and save her sibling, Pang encounters a cutting-edge documentary film crew. The entire bunch of them bed down in an inn run by a creepy crone. The plot then expands to incorporate slicing, dicing, cross-dressing, forbidden family relations, atrocity and enough bare-lady bondage to inspire the spontaneous creation of a nationwide network of fetishist fan clubs.
