The Harder They Fall

The Harder They Fall (2021)

No Nudity

Review

While it may sound like a sequel to the 1972 reggae film classic The Harder They Come, the revisionist western The Harder They Fall (2021) breaks new ground for the genre by featuring an almost entirely black cast. Lovecraft Country and Loki star Jonathan Majors stars as Nat Love, an outlaw who disbanded his gang and began laying low after his archenemy Rufus Buck (Idris Elba), the man who murdered his parents, was taken into custody and sent to prison. During a transfer of Buck to another prison, his partner Trudy (Regina King) and their gang—including Cherokee Bill (LaKeith Stanfield) stage a daring prison break aboard a train and release Buck from custody. When Nat gets word that his mortal enemy has been sprung, he gathers up his old gang—including Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), Cuffee (Danielle Deadwyler), Bill Pickett (Edi Gathegi), and Beckwourth (RJ Cyler)—to track down Buck and put an end to him and his gang once and for all. Of course, that's going to be easier said than done, especially for a gang that hasn't rode together in a while, but with the righteousness of revenge on his side, Nat believes he's destined to finally put an end to this rivalry of his for good. While a little bit of nudity might have made this already good film even better, we're sad to say there's none to be found. Zazie Beetz shows off lots of cleavage when moonlighting as a showgirl and Aahkilah Cornelius shows off in blue body paint with gold leaf pasties, both of which are mighty sexy, but for a film with the word Harder in the title, we don't blame you for expecting a little bit more!
