In The Gamble (1988), a swashbuckling young gambler (Mathew Modine) rolls the dice on a wager with a cruel countess (Faye Dunaway) in an attempt to make nice and regain the family fortune that his father lost to her in a bet years ago. When he too loses all to this villainous vixen, he must quickly flee to escape her apparent glee at slitting his throat. After her young foe teams up with a mighty attractive lass on the lamb (Corinne Clery), will the evil countess be strong enough to hold the troubled twosome in her clutches? Don’t bet on it.
