The Dry (2021)

A lot can happen in 20 years but for Federal Agent Aaron Falk (Eric Bana), apparently not enough has happened in his hometown until now.  Falk returns back to his small Australian town after a long absence to attend the tragic funeral of his childhood best friend, who allegedly killed his wife and one of his kids in what looks to be a murder/suicide.  He is met with hostility from the people he once knew because they still think the unsolved death of his high school sweetheart pins the blame solely on Falk.  When the father of his friend asks this skilled investigator to stay behind for a while to help figure out why his son committed such a heinous crime, he reluctantly agrees, but soon discovers that small towns don't forget the past and him asking questions is only upsetting his dead girlfriend's father and brother.  As Falk begins to turn over every stone in the drought stricken Aussie desert town, he begins to unravel the truth behind the killing of his best friend and family as well as figure out more and more about the death of his girlfriend all those many years ago and cope with the pain of loss and the hatred from his hometown after two decades away.  The Dry definitely shows the danger that came along with the wildfires in the country in 2019-20 and use that as backdrop for this murder mystery while making the audience sweat.  Lucky for us skin aficionados,  Aussie eye candy BeBe Bettencourt gets down to her bikini in a flashback as well as model turned actress Claude Scott-Mitchell in a couple of flashbacks along the way!
