An odd couple's bond is tested by tragedy in the Belgian drama The Broken Circle Breakdown (2012). It was love at first sight for Elise (Veerle Baetens) and Didier (Johan Heldenbergh), and despite the fact that she's as pious and practical as he is artistic and atheistic, they've managed to stay together. But when their daughter is diagnosed with a potentially life-threatening illness, their love is put on trial.
