Have you ever met someone and considered them to be your intellectual soulmate?  You like the same books, movies, TV shows, have the same hobbies, pet peeves, and insecurities...  But there is something that doesn't quite line-up, like you think you've found this missing puzzle piece, but the puzzle piece doesn't fit and is also gay.  Well Straight Up (2019) is definitely the indie rom-com for you, because that is exactly what this story follows.  When Rory (Katie Findlay) meets Todd (writer/director James Sweeney), they immediately hit it off and become fast friends, bordering on being soulmates, but there is one snag, he is a historically gay man and she simply doesn't care, so can these crazy kids make a go of it as a couple without all the fuss and muss of fucking regularly or even at all???  Well there are probably pitfalls to dating anyone who is not sexually attracted to you in the first place, let alone trying to get them to change their very core as a person, right?  Either way, these two are going to give it a go because their compatibility is that electric.  Along the way, we get to see some awkward sexual chemistry coming from the lead Katie Findlay as they try to have sex for the first time and fumbles with getting down to her bra and panties in a montage of their first time trying.  We also get a bit of a lesbian lapdance from Dani Drori, who also have a poolside bikini convo, showing off her incredible stems.  We also get to see the alluring Grace Song get down to her bra and panties in another sticky first time fumbling in the bedroom with James Sweeney.  This rom-com is definitely hilarious in all the right ways and sexy in a way that circles slowly back around to humorous as well.  Definitely worth a watch when you're itching for an indie flick kind of Friday night.
