From Errol Flynn to Men in Tights (1993), the story of the charismatic thief who robs from the rich to give to the poor has been retold at the movies in countless ways. Rookie director Sara Millman takes a defiantly modern approach to the material in her version, Robin’s Hood (2003), which is transplanted from Sherwood Forest to the contemporary ghetto. Khahtee V. Turner stars as Robin, a well-meaning social worker who’s frustrated by the limitations of the social-services system. By teaming with a troubled rebel (Clody Cates), Robin sets her sights on robbing banks and redistributing wealth as a means for creating positive social change. Millman films the interracial, same-sex relationship between her two leads with an equal amount of tenderness and fiery excitement. Both women look fabulous as they prep for their hijackings by sharing some explicit TLC.
