Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story (2023)

A prequel spinoff series of the popular Shondaland series Bridgerton, this Netflix period drama focuses on the young Queen Charlotte (India Ria Amarteifio) and her marriage to King George (Corey Mylchreest). While we do revisit the present-day Queen (Golda Rosheuvel) dealing with the death of her granddaughter in childbirth and the lack of a suitable heir to the throne despite having had over a dozen children, the main story is of the young royal being whisked away from Germany to England by her brother to wed a monarch no one in the castle is willing to talk about. Charlotte slips away and tries to escape before the nuptials only to come face to face with her handsome groom-to-be. The sparks fly during their meet-cute in the garden and the wedding goes on as planned. Also in attendance is the younger version of Adjoin Andoh’s Lady Danbury, now played by Arsema Thomas, who displays hints of skin in the bathtub after sex with her much older husband. Not having sex however are the king and his new queen, at least not until the second episode, though India’s best bits remained covered. Well, that’s kind of a whistle-downer!
