Over Your Dead Body (2015), a grizzly psychological horror movie based on a Japanese folk story, feels more like a poke story at times. Miyuki Goto (Ko Shibasaki) is a famous actress who is cast to play Oiwa, the starring role in a new play based on the famous Japanese ghost story, Yotsuya Kaidan. She throws her star power around to get her boyfriend, Kosuke Hasegawa (Ebizo Ichikawa) cast in the play as well, even though he would be far from the production’s first choice. As the play goes on, off-stage professional relationships morph into lustful obsessions, and the cast slowly loses track of the line between the reality of their lives, and the fantasy of the play. Director Takashi Miike is a master of finding the horror not only of ghost stories, but of the silent mundanity in which we live our lives and relationships. As sexy as it is scary, the crown jewel of the film is a scene in which actress/model Hitomi Katayama lays over a living body, exposing a wealth of sexcellent sideboob. Over Your Dead Body will give you rigor mortis of the trousers.
