A hyper-stylized and atypically experimental offering from smut maven Tinto Brass, Nerosubianco (1969) is one of a trio of “Pop Art” films made early in the Italian director’s career. Anita Sanders plays Barbara, a typically cheeky Brass heroine who plays hide-and-go-seek with a persistent male pursuer over the course of an afternoon in the city. Unlike Brass’s typical odes to busts and buns, Nerosubianco incorporates a potent commentary on sex, drugs, and politics in the swingin’ Sixties. Of course, the director still manages to squeeze in copious money shots of his sexy protagonist; Sanders gives it up in groovy fashion, and her perky pointers look stunning against a background of eye-popping graphics.
