Review

Christian Bale is happily married to Emily Watson in the English suburbs. Then an old buddy arrives at his doorstep and Metroland (1997) goes off the rails. Bale is distracted by his still carousing cohort and memories of Elsa Zylberstein, the sexy gal he left behind in Paris when pursuing a more creative life. Elsa is a French tart hard to shake, as she appears topless in flashbacks that will leave audiences with hot flashes. Not that Emily is small potatoes. She shows off those small potatoes in a couple of scenes, which is enough to explain Bale's resistance to leave his comfortable suburban home. Then Amanda Ryan strips naked at a party. Bale almost bails on his marriage when Amanda spreads her legs. Who said the suburbs were boring?
