Luce (2019)

Luce (2019) is like Six Degrees of Separation (1993). Each film was adapted to the big screen from its same-named play. And both feature white couples that take in a Black youth who may be up to no good. Yet the stakes are higher in Luce since the title character could be a killer opposed to Six Degrees of Separation’s mere conman. Directed, co-written and co-produced by Julius Onah, this social thriller follows Amy (Naomi Watts) and Peter (Tim Roth) Edgar as they try to navigate their marital relationship with one another as well as their responsibility to their adopted son Luce (Kelvin Harrison Jr.). The couple question their parenting skills when illegal fireworks are found in Luce’s locker. If that’s not troubling enough, the high school’s history teacher Harriet Wilson (Octavia Spencer) alerts the Edgars about a disturbing paper their son turned in. As the spouses sort out the matter, they wonder whether it’s better to blindly trust their teen or deliver a dose of tough love. They also find time to share a steamy shower together before banging hard in bed. Breast of all, these skintastic acts let us glance at Naomi’s bare chest! The movie also includes Andrea Bang, Astro, and the skin on Marsha Stephanie Blake. As Rosemary Wilson, the toned actress sheds her threads at school. Talk about a great student body!
