Moody lovers in a small Polish backwater mull their plans for the future in Przemyslaw Wojcieszek’s Louder than Bombs (2002). Rafal Mackowiak stars as Marcin, a flailing auto mechanic who’s struggling with the recent, premature death of his father. The best thing in his life is the lovely Kaska (Sylwia Juszczak), a local beauty whose ambition to study in the United States threatens Marcin’s happiness. Wojcieszek’s camera captures the young lovebirds as they fret over the directions their lives are taking, and the director takes special care to up the ante by revealing just what a knockout the Eastern European Juszczak really is.
