Lady Macbeth (2016)

Before Florence Pugh made a big splash in the miniseries The Little Drummer Girl (2018) and the movie Little Women (2019), she doffed her duds in Lady Macbeth (2016). The indie flick includes Cosmo Jarvis, Naomi Ackie, Christopher Fairbank, Paul Hilton, and Ms. Pugh’s nudity! Based on Nikolai Leskov’s novella “Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District” (1865), the story is similar to D. H. Lawrence’s better known novel “Lady Chatterley’s Lover” (1928) since it deals with adultery. Katherine (Pugh), a common woman in mid-19th century England, is rescued from a life of poverty when she marries Alexander Lester (Hilton). Although he’s a wealthy land owner, he’s also twice her age. As a result, Katherine feels like a Rolling Stone since she “can’t get no satisfaction.” It doesn’t take long for the wayward wife to begin a torrid affair with Sebastian (Jarvis). He may work for Mr. Lester but he plays with the Mrs! Rather than keeping the tryst a secret, Katherine is emboldened to break her marital vows and English laws. Throughout the course of the story, Florence flaunts her fabulous flesh! First, we see her raw rump when she and her hubby hump. Then, she bares her breasts when her lover and she have sex. No wonder the ingénue won a British Independent Film Award for her revealing role. In addition to gaining critical praise, the period piece was a financial success. No doubt, due to Flo’s sexiness. Suffice it to say, Lady Macbeth will have you clutching at your dagger!
