Review

Not to be confused with the popular telenovela of the same name, Antonio del Real’s spicy Spanish romantic drama La Mujer de mi vida (2001) describes the misadventures of award-winning film director Ramón (Emilio Gutiérrez Caba). Immediately after nabbing a Goya Award, Ramón is asked to come to the assistance of an actor friend (José Sancho) trying to procure a visa for his beautiful Peruvian girlfriend (Leticia Brédice). The filmmaker takes something of an unhealthy interest in the girl’s plight, leading Enrique (Sancho) to suspect that he’s been two-timed. Brédice is just the kind of dame you’d expect men to squabble over, but in this film there’s plenty to go around. One look at costar Irene Visedo ought to be enough to convince Ramón that his needs can be met elsewhere.
