La mujer de Benjamín (1991)

An aging bachelor (Eduardo López Rojas) is driven to extreme lengths in the critically acclaimed drama La Mujer de Benjamín (1991). Weathering a lonely existence under the scolding eye of his disapproving sister, Benjamin (Rojas) grows increasingly obsessed with a ravishing, virginal teenager (Arcelia Ramírez). A desperate flurry of love letters gets him nowhere, so Benjamin decides to kidnap the young woman and hope that fate handles the rest. It does; before he knows it, Benjamin is taking orders from his dominant young lover. La Mujer de Benjamín nabbed a number of Mexico’s prestigious Ariel awards, as critics found themselves bowled over by radiant Ramírez.
