On the ground-breaking Fox sitcom Married… with Children, ultra-curvaceous Katey Sagal often overshadowed her shapely daughter, who was played with spandex-clad salaciousness by Christina Applegate. While most famous for her portrayal of a hot wife in heat, Katey was born into a show business family and grew up in Los Angeles and New York. She made her TV debut in The Failing of Raymond (1971), which her father directed. She also worked as a singer/songwriter and began belting out tunes to guys who could barely keep their belts on. In the '70s she played in a band called "The Group with No Name", which released the 1976 album Moon over Brooklyn. If it was only Katey's moon, then we'd pay top dollar to get our mitts on it. During this time, she earned extra cash as a back-up singer for Bob Dylan, Bette Midler, Gene Simmons, and Tanya Tucker. But it was in 1985, while appearing in a musical, that she was spotted by casting agents, who placed her as Mary Tyler Moore's feisty coworker, Jo Tucker, in Mary, a short-lived comedy series. That helped her to get the part of Peggy Bundy, and the rest is herstory. She's had subsequent successful runs on 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter and Sons of Anarchy, and voiced Leela, the one-eyed animated hottie, on Futurama, but Married... with Children is the closest we've come to catching Katey's best assets. What a shame to keep such a fine body of work covered.
