It should come as a slight surprise that Driving Miss Daisy (1989) biddy Jessica Tandy was at one time, in a galaxy far, far away, long, long ago, a hot chick with a body worth squinting at. Born in Hackney, London, England, on June 7, 1909, Jessica made her professional stage debut when she was eighteen years old. She went on to perform in many plays in London's West End, primarily Shakespearean works. She auditioned for films in England, but after minimal success and the end of a marriage, Jessica made her way to the United States with the hope of finding bigger roles. Eventually, she broke into Hollywood and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1952. Some of her onscreen credits include works such as Betty Crocker Star Matinee (1951), The Desert Fox: The Story of Rommel (1951), The Marriage (1954), Star Stage (1956), Studio One in Hollywood (1951), Alfred Hitchcock Presents (1956), Hemingway's Adventures of a Young Man (1962), The World According to Garp (1982), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), and Nobody's Fool (1994). Alas, the young Jessica never took her clothes off when a camera was present. A contrarian and obstinate eccentric, Tandy opted not to show her candy until the age of eighty-five.
