I Am Thor

“I used to be a serious body builder, right now I’m a serious rock and roller.” This remark is heard from the lips of Jon Mikl Thor, the Canadian competitive body builder who put down the weights and picked up a guitar. His cathartic rise and fall, and subsequent come-back attempt in his sixties, is the subject of the documentary I am Thor (2015). As a rock god, Jon took on the persona of the Norse god, Thor. A stage show that included feats of strength and other physical prowess, full costumes, and ear-splitting heavy metal, rivaled Kiss or Alice Copper, and secured Thor and his gang of rockers a spot at the top of the list of the most outrageous live acts of all time. Thor’s wife Rusty Hamilton (aka Cherry Bomb), is the real eye candy of the outfit. At the height of the band’s success she went on a topless tirade, exposing her photogenic fun bags on an array of magazine covers – all of which we’re privileged to peep in the film. Thor may be able to break cinder blocks, but the busty Rusty will have you breaking a sweat. Unfortunately their subdued suburban marriage lands on the rocks when Thor, now over 60, decides he will embark on his life’s quest of attaining a platinum album once again.
