D.O.A. (1980)

Brief Nudity

Review

Celebrate punk’s birth pangs with the gritty rockumentary D.O.A (1980).  Directed by Lech Kowalski, this doc focuses on the Sex Pistols’ first (and last) American tour in 1978, intercut with footage of their contemporaries The Dead Boys, Generation X, X-Ray Spex, The Rich Kids, and Sham 69. D.O.A. captures the “lightning in a bottle” moment that spawned the punk revolution, and how that movement galvanized fans, inspired a generation of disaffected youth, and scared the shit out of the Man all at the same time. Sid’s girl, doomed punk princess Nancy Spungen, shows off her rib cushions casually taking off her top during an interview. If that doesn’t give you a rise, you must be D. O. A.
