Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies (2023)

Still relatively new to Rydell High, the brainy Jane (Marisa Davila) has a secret summer tryst with handsome jock Buddy (Jason Schmidt). To her surprise, rather than keep their relationship hidden once school starts, he asks her to go steady, igniting the ire of the popular girls, led by Buddy’s ex Susan (Madison Thompson). After a date at the drive-in, Buddy tells his jock buds that they went all the way, and now the whole school thinks Jane is easy. While trying to address this rumor so she can salvage her run for student council, Jane ends up connecting with three other social outcasts - Olivia (Cheyenne Isabel Wells), who the other students think slept with an English teacher last year, the tomboyish Cynthia (Ari Notartomaso), who’s desperate to join the school’s leather-clad bad boy gang the T-Birds, and Nancy (Tricia Fukuhara), an aspiring fashion designer who’s besties dump her because they got boyfriends. After Jane is humiliated at the pep rally she helped plan, she tries to withdraw from the student council election, but then ends up giving a rousing speech that lights a fire under her three newfound friends, and ends with her challenging Buddy for student council president and all four girls mooning the entire assembly. Yep, the four girls hike up their skirts and drop their panties to show the student body their butt cheeks (though Ari and Tricia supposedly use butt doubles) and then steal the T-Bird’s car, thus the Pink Ladies are born! While the music unfortunately sounds more like High School Musical-meets-Glee as opposed to something that you’d actually hear in 1954, we’re glad to know that exposing your ass, which did happen in the original movie, is now proven to be a time honored Rydell tradition.
