Akin to Hollywood classics like Giant (1956), Toni Sbert’s epic melodrama En defensa propia (1977) chronicles the bitter feud that erupts between a Mexican oil tycoon and a rival who’s just suffered the loss of his entire family. Jorge Luke, Mário Almada, and Carlos Cardán star in a tale of wealth, ambition, greed, and--oh yeah, women. Melodramas about oil tycoons always have to have women. And although she fails to strip completely, bronzed blonde goddess Alicia Encinas doesn’t disappoint in her ravishing star turn.
