Powdered wigs and whalebone corsets abound in the romantic German period drama Das unbezähmbare Herz (2004). Bettina Zimmermann stars as Angélique Labiche, an ambitious young peasant girl who woos a duke (Stefan Jürgens) and then attempts to use her clout to escape a life of servitude. Labiche’s demanding madam (Gesche Tebbenhoff) shows why aristocrats have all the fun in a scene of breast-baring flirtation, but it’s Zimmermann who gets the last laugh as she sleeps her way to the top of the social pyramid.
