Black and White (1999) is, ironically a movie in color, and it continues to play with us from the first reel to the last. The hybrid of an action-mystery-thriller movie stars Rory Cochrane as a devote Catholic and rookie LAPD cop who is partnered with a hard-edged, street-smart lady copper played by Gina Gershon. Add to that conflict a serial killer and you have a plot to propel you forward with speed and chills. Then enters Ron Silver as an internal affairs investigator into the picture when all evidence leads to a cop as the serial killer. This is all window dressing to the real engine driving the film, who is naturally Gina. She suggests the rookie lose the tension and awkwardness of their first day on the job by getting naked. No secrets. We like her style.
