File this one under curiosity piece. A Deadly Adoption (2015) began as a secret project - a Lifetime movie starring SNL alums Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig that was set to air without promotion in honor of the network's 25th anniversary. The hope was that some people would stumble upon it, discover the comedic duo working well below their pay grade, and be dumbfounded at how straight it was all being played. Add social media and boom, a sensation is born. As fate would have it, the secret got out, and suddenly we were bombarded with teaser trailers, billboards, and a flurry of anticipation. And while A Deadly Adoption does have some winks at the audience to be sure, it's not an all out parody, and only those familiar with Lifetime tropes will catch the subtle in-jokes. Take for instance the repeated scenes of gorgeous Jessica Lowndes (90210) explaining to Wiig and Ferrell's six-year-old daughter why it's perfectly reasonable for her be wearing a fake pregnancy belly, and later, why she had to kidnap her and bring her to a cabin in the woods. In fact, it's Lowndes who ends up getting the showiest performance here, going from Poison Ivy-esque seductress to full Lifetime loony tune in record time. But it's not just her acting chops she's showcasing. Jessica treats us her ample cleavage throughout, testing Farrell's everyman in a low cut maternity dress, and later, ditching the dress as we and that absurdly trusting little girl get a good look at Lowndes in her bra and fake baby bump. Adoption's deadly serious tone may be good for a laugh, but Jessica's bodacious bod is no joke.
