Adapted from the 1966 novel by Jean Rhys, the made-for-British-TV movie Wide Sargasso Sea (2006) is an imagining of the events that could have preceded Charlotte Bronte’s classic novel Jane Eyre. Brunette British babe Rebecca Hall is Antoinette, the Creole woman Edward Rochester marries on a Jamaican plantation. But when the pair returns to England, Antoinette is an outsider because of her mixed heritage and is disenfranchised by patriarchal English society. As she becomes more and more unhinged, Rochester locks her in the attic, where she stays a prisoner. Luckily Rebecca does manage to free herself from her top, exposing both breasts in a sex scene.
