Born on November 7, 1964, in New York City to an African-American mother and an Ashkenazi Jewish father, Troy started her entertainment career at an early age. She started out on the kid's show Sesame Street (1969) when she was just four years old. Once Troy was all grown up, she studied acting and psychobiology at City University of New York's School for the Arts, and after scoring a role in The Cotton Club (1984), Troy moved to Los Angeles, California, which is where her career took off. She quickly became a regular on the soap opera Dynasty in 1986 and earned a ShoWest's Newcomer of the Year award for her starring role in the feature Rooftops (1989). Some of Troy's more recent credits include works such as A Light in the Darkness (2002), Recipe for Disaster (2003), and I Really Hate My Ex (2015).
