Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic novel gets a modern telling (and a new ending) with The Scarlet Letter (1995), courtesy of Demi Moore in the role of adulteress Hester Prynne. To be fair, Demi thinks her Puritan husband has been killed by Indians when she starts fondling Reverend Gary Oldman’s scarlet staff. But hubby comes back, and it’s public humiliation for Hester. Free embroidering, too, since her clothes are now emblazoned with a big “A” for Adultery. None of this keeps Demi from blazing up the screen with some classic nakedness, though. Lisa Joliffe-Andoh also doffs her garb for some Victorian vucking.
