The Many Saints of Newark (2021)

Sixteen years after coming to a bitterly divisive end, The Sopranos finally gets the feature film prequel that fans have been waiting for with The Many Saints of Newark (2021). Cribbing its name from the American translation of the surname of the film's main character, The Many Saints of Newark follows Dickie Moltisanti (Alessandro Nivola) father of the series' second lead Christopher (Michael Imperioli, who narrates the film), a dubious hood in the Sopranos crew, one of eight crews in the New Jersey-based DiMeo crime family. Dickie has absolutely no moral compass, falling hard for Giuseppina (Michela De Rossi), the new wife of his father Aldo "Hollywood Dick" Moltisanti (Ray Liotta). He also begins to mentor his impressionable young nephew Tony Soprano—played by Michael Gandolfini, real-life son of the deceased James, who originated the role—and setting him on the path to eventually become the head of the crew. The film also takes place during the 1968 Newark race riots, a major plot point in the film, as well as bringing back all manner of popular characters from the show—albeit played by younger actors—including Junior Soprano (Corey Stoll), Livia Soprano (Vera Farmiga), and capos like Silvio Dante (John Magaro), Paulie Walnuts (Billy Magnussen), and even Big Pussy (Samson Moeakiola). Fans of the original series will find a lot to love here, but one thing fans and non-fans alike can enjoy is a topless sex scene from Michela De Rossi, along with a post poke look at her perfect pair! Much like the name of the show from which it's based, The Many Saints of Newark will have you hitting the high notes!
