The Lowdown (2025)

Ethan Hawke is Lee Raybon in this Coen Brothers-esque series from Sterlin Harjo (creator of Reservation Dogs): a freelance journalist or “truth-storian” who also runs a bookstore in Tulsa. The first season involves Lee in the death of Dale Washberg (Tim Blake Nelson), the younger brother of Donald Washberg (Kyle MacLachlan), a candidate for governor whom Lee once wrote a hit piece on because of his seedy dealings. Lee is convinced Dale’s death wasn’t a suicide, especially since Donald has been sleeping with Dale’s wife, Betty Jo (Jeanne Tripplehorn), but his fixation on taking Donald down gets him in some dangerous situations, which stunts his attempts to be better father to his daughter, Francis (Ryan Kiera Armstrong).

By Season 2, despite receiving accolades for his essay tribute to Dale, Lee is still struggling, and his antics at an awards banquet cause a rift between both him and Francis, and him and his fellow journalists. A lot of big names climb aboard for this sophomore outing (Betty Gilpin, Tommy Lee Jones, Martha Plimpton, John Hawkes), but our attention is too focused on Abbie Cobb, who we see in her bra and undies after spending the night with Lee, after which he has a freakout and proposes marriage. Abbie’s overspilling cleavage will have something stirring low down in your jeans!
