The Netflix Original Series Maid, which premiered on the streaming service in the fall of 2021, is based on Stephanie Land's memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will to Survive, which tells you just about everything you need to know about the series. Margaret Qualley stars as Alex, a young mother who escapes the psychological and physical torment she received at the hands of her college boyfriend and baby's daddy (Nick Robinson) in search of a better life not just for herself, but also for her young daughter. Her mother—played by Qualley's real life mom Andie MacDowell—is a free spirited bohemian who has never been there for her daughter and continues to not be there for her in this equally difficult time. Alex flits about from shelter to shelter looking for any way to keep her and her daughter safe. Upon finding a placement in a women's shelter, Alex gets a job working as a maid and though the pay sucks, it's the first time in her life she's been self reliant and managed to hold down a job. Needless to say, the show is depressing from start to finish, but there's plenty of uplifting and inspiring themes along the way that bring a life affirming air to the whole endeavor. But let's be honest, you're not checking it out for any life affirming messages, you're here to see Margaret Qualley's brief topless scene in episode 8 when she wake up next to a dude wearing only panties and we get a quick look at her breasts as she gets out of bed to put on a shirt! Stick with that scene and you've got it Maid!
