The Beast (2001)

Jackson Burns (Frank Langella), media mogul, has created a 24-hour news broadcast organization with a twist. Rather than hire highly polished presenters and give them highly polished ‘reports’, this network takes the cameras everywhere, turning the reporter into the story - gonzo journalism in full force. Cameras are always on, in the newsroom and out, all the staff are on screen, all the behind the scenes machinations are out in the open. One problem, this concept, brilliant as it is, requires the viewer to think and be aware of what’s going on in their world, whereas the average network TV watcher has the IQ of a spoon and the attention span of a hummingbird. Consequence? Series canned after five of the six produced episodes had aired. There’s really no justice on network TV. On the skin side of things, Wendy Crewson, Missy Crider, Adrienne-Joi Johnson, Elizabeth Mitchell, Karen Sillas and Laura Vazquez co-starred and all have shown a shoulder or two – as our pictures prove – so get stuck in!
