Straight Outta Compton (2015)

They might be starring in family movies and selling high end headphones these days, but there was a time when the members of N.W.A were terrifying and shocking America with their gritty music about life in the inner city. Straight Outta Compton (2015) details the rise of the band with the name you can't say, centering around the release of their iconic 1988 album of the same name. After failing to hit it big with a few other bands, Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins) convinces the poetic lyricist Ice Cube (played by his real life son, O'Shea Jackson Jr.) to form a rap group with him, before getting their shy friend Eazy-E (Jason Mitchell) to perform a rap song called "Boyz-n-the-Hood" when the local rap stars they wrote it for, reject it. It becomes a local hit, and soon enough the band is signed by highly regarded music manager Jerry Heller (Paul Giamatti). Under Jerry's tutelage, the band become a nationwide sensation that nearly singlehandedly brings gangsta rap to the white masses. But while their anti-police lyrics cause all sorts of issues, the real problems come from infighting within the group and Jerry taking a whole lot more than his cut. By the time Suge Knight gets involved and Eazy-E gets AIDS, the group that started it all are a shell of what they once were, and the genre they defined is threatening to move on without them. Still, you'll be inspired to rap after having a good fap, thanks to all the T&A the guys in N.W.A. got on the regular.
