Two neglected adolescents lash out at the world in the intense French drama De bruit et de fureur (Sound and Fury) (1988). Bruno (Vincent Gasperitsch) lives in the Parisian projects with his mother and pet bird. His mother works several jobs just to pay the rent and is almost never home; instead, Bruno spends his time with Jean-Roger (François Négret), a troubled teen from a broken family who lives nearby. Seeing the anger welling up inside the boy, an idealistic young teacher encourages Bruno to focus his energy on schoolwork rather than petty crime. But as Jean-Roger begins to fear losing the only person who cares about him, he lashes out, with tragic consequences. Lisa Hérédia goes full frontal as the subject of Bruno's adolescent fantasies, as does Aurélie Sterling as a neighbor who the boys spy on through her window. Sound and Fury? More like Sound and Furry!
