September Dawn (2006)

September Dawn (2006) dawns in 1877 as Utah gov Terence Stamp, a.k.a. Brigham Young, tells his side of the story of the Mountain Meadows Massacre. As many as 140 people died in the 1855 slaughter as they were passing through Utah on their way west, and the question remains to this day: Were Paiute Indians to blame, or was it a local Mormon sect that commanded the carnage? The film then visits the fateful time 20 years earlier when a Missouri wagon party asked Bishop Jacob Samuelson (Jon Voight) for permission to rest on his land. We see Jon grow suspicious of the settlers, sending his son Trent Ford to spy on them. Trent falls hard for Tamara Hope, a wowza wagon rider and daughter of the group's ministers. But it's not long before he learns that Jon has called for an attack on the unlucky throng. Lolita Davidovich also appears, but the only Davido-skin you'll see is dead rear and lifeless life rafts as she floats dead down a river.
