Secrets & Lies (1996)

Director Mike Leigh is known for his love of actors and an improvisational style, which works wonders in Secrets & Lies (1996). The story of a black woman who finds her birth mother, who happens to be white, is both moving and realistically rendered. And Leigh allows the top-heavy talent of Brenda Blethyn to explore regions usually untouched onscreen, that being her nether regions, as she plays with her big girls and more in a masturbation scene that will have audiences joining in--that’s the sound of one hand clapping!
