A petty criminal swears to keep to the straight and narrow following one final misdeed in the German thriller Salamander (2001). Barbara Gebler’s sixty-minute short stars Henriette Heinze as a listless twenty-something who agrees to help an ex-boyfriend with some passport forgeries if he promises to let her off the hook when they’re finished. Sandra (Heinze) completes the assignment and vows to go straight, but fate has other plans. It turns out that her deadweight ex (Bela B. Felsenheimer) is in trouble with the law, and in order to make bail, he needs poor Sandra to pull another job. Ignoring her conscience, the heroine plunges in yet again, this time with more troubling results. As Sandra attempts to skirt the slammer, a hardworking waitress played by Sophie Huber gets rewarded for playing by the rules. Male viewers will enjoy their own rewards as Huber exposes her curves from the shelter of a doorway.
