Roving Woman (2022)

With a title taken from a Connie Converse song (who herself drove off in search of a new life in 1974 and was never seen or heard from again), this road trip film stars Lena Góra as Sara, who starts off standing on a doorstep in a fancy dress after having been kicked out of her LA home by her now-ex boyfriend. After spending the night on a discarded sofa next to a dumpster, she hitches a ride from a friend of her ex and ends up at a liquor store where Sara finds a beat-up old Toyota Camry with the engine running and drives off in it, heading to somewhere she doesn’t know without any of her things and or any plan whatsoever. She spends the better part of the film scrounging around the desert, washing up in rivers, finding jeans in the garbage, and finding someone to let her use their phone so she can call her mom (a conversation that does not go well). One of her only happy moments is jumping into a pool in just a nude pair of panties and nothing else. That and listening to the music recorded by the car’s owner, which then gives her a purpose when she decides to find him. Lena, who co-wrote the film, wore a pretty sheer dress to the film's premiere at the Tribeca Film Fest, but it wasn’t as sexy a sight as those wet undies and bare breasts. It’ll have your hand roving around around your lap!
