How I Fell in Love with a Gangster (2022)

The Netflix Original Polish film How I Fell in Love with a Gangster (2022) debuted on the streaming service in the early days of 2022. The film tells the story of infamous Polish gangster Nikodem “Nikoś” Skotarczak (Tomasz Włosok) and, much like its biggest inspiration Goodfellas (1990), goes all the way back to his childhood when he aspired to be a gangster. Unlike Henry Hill, however, Nikos had a trio of women jockeying for power and position within his life in the form of material girl Halina (Magdalena Lamparska), elusive temptress Milena (Agnieszka Grochowska) and perpetually DTF horndog Nikita (Julia Wieniawa-Narkiewicz). The lengthy epic is narrated by one of them, or perhaps multiple different women—it's hard to tell when the movie's in Polish—which also provides a unique perspective on the events rather than the sort of all-knowing third person storytelling form seen in most gangster flicks. As Alphaville's "Big in Japan" blares on the soundtrack over the opening scene and a constant Euro-discotechque new wave soundtrack propels the entire film, set across multiple decades but forever stuck in those halcyon days of the late 70s and early 80s. Director and co-writer Maciej Kawulski manages to keep up this frantic pace for a full thirty minutes longer than Scorsese's film, to which it owes more than just a little of its style. As for the nudity, the gorgeous Julia Wieniawa-Narkiewicz reveals her rump while adjusting her skirt after sex, while co-star Agnieszka Grochowska bares her boobs and buns in multiple nude scenes, including a lusty lesbian lip lock with an uncredited vixen!
