Romy Schneider had everything going for her as an actress. Born into Germany's premier acting dynasty, this child of film and theater was talented, connected, driven, and to top it off, beautiful in the way of an unattainable ideal. It was as though she had sparkling cut diamonds for eyes. Romy's regal mien allowed her to specialize in playing royalty onscreen, but she also knew how to please the commoners. Her rabble-rousing nude scenes span a string of European films from the late 1960s through the 1970s, and many are attainable in all of Romy's original splendor. Although this queenly performer kept her pubic crown to herself, the seat of power was visible and felt almost within reach in La Piscine (1969).
