The late, great French director Claude Sautet (Un Coeur en Hiver, Nelly & Monsieur Arnaud) delivered a love story like no other with his film César and Rosalie (1972) starring French legends Yves Montand and Romy Schneider in the title roles! Rosalie is a recently divorced woman who has fallen for scrap metal worker César. Things begin to go awry when David (Sami Frey), Rosalie's old boyfriend from before she was married, resurfaces and makes it his new goal to woo her away from César. The ploy works when César lashes out at Rosalie for spending time with David, which of course drives her away and right into the arms of David. Things only get worse from there as César hatches a plan to buy back Rosalie's childhood home and renovate it for her and the love triangle dynamics begin to shift once again. Needless to say, Rosalie won't stay ignorant to the machinations of the men in her life for long, needing to eventually do what's right for her and her daughter. The film was originally set to star another French icon, Catherine Deneuve, but she became pregnant and had to drop out of the role. Romy Schneider does an admirable job stepping into the role and giving a well-rounded performance! Speaking of well-rounded, Romy's rump is just that as she puts it on display while lying in bed chatting with Frey at the one hour and five minute mark! With an ass like that, no wonder men are coming to blows over her affections!
