Robin Sherwood has nothing to do with Robin Hood of Sherwood Forest. While England’s legendary hero stole from the rich and gave to the poor, the American actress gave rich performances in poorly chosen productions. As a result, she rates as one of the great lost talents of the ’70s and ’80s despite an auspicious start. After performing with the North Country Players New England summer repertory theater, the Miami Beach beauty made her big screen debut in the indie film Loose Shoes in 1978. Also that year, she appeared in the CBS movie Outside Chance. Next, her sexy presence helped thrill fans of the thriller Tourist Trap (1979). By 1980, the busy brunette revealed her … comic timing in the superhero romp Hero at Large and the new age satire Serial featuring Tuesday Weld, Martin Mull, and Sally Kellerman. At this point, Ms. Sherwood seemed to be on the fast track to fame. In fact, she became an overnight scream queen with her scene-stealing cameo opposite John Travolta in Brian De Palma’s neo-noir mystery Blow Out (1981). But instead of shooting to stardom, Robin’s combination of raw sensuality and wholesome good looks attracted parts that juxtaposed her voluptuous vulnerability alongside acts of violence. In 1982, the promising ingénue bared her bush and breasts while playing a damsel in distress for Death Wish II. She also displayed her three Bs as well as her character’s misery in the horror flick The Love Butcher. No wonder, Robin flew the movie coop soon after.
